Summary & key words
« This report takes stock of the initiatives that Belgian companies are taking to improve the social sustainability of their supply chains, in the absence of a coherent policy framework on business and human rights (see « Belgium and the Sustainable Supply Chain Agenda »). It finds that only a minority of large Belgian companies currently have a clear supply chain strategy, and that the emphasis continues to lie on self-regulation, with over 60% of existing initiatives being purely corporate-driven. Moreover, even more ‘inclusive’ multi-stakeholder initiatives such as sustainability certification are by no means a golden bullet for socially sustainable supply chains, and continue to face important challenges. »
